Hot Summer

In summer the weather is very hot,
The sun is burning and the air is still.
The heavy humid air is moving not,
It is even hot on top of the hills.
I watch the shade trees as they barely sway,
The air is heavy; the breezes are nil.
It is too hot for animals to play,
To keep from being hot they must be still.
People also get lazy and move slow,
Reading and lounging is what they will do.
And swimming is another way to go,
You can keep yourself cool in that way, too.
Yet even the rain gives little relief,
It is still too hard to go to sleep.
